![]() I actually emailed Joe Mattis that August asking if he needed someone to do stats for him at football games on Friday nights. I knew they were my passion, so I started to figure out a backup plan. The one consistent thing all along was sports. When I returned to Erie after graduating in 2006, I was sort of lost for months trying to get interviews and figure out what I wanted to do if my plan didn't work out. My goal all along was to work for a nearby professional sports team in Cleveland, Buffalo or Pittsburgh. Bonaventure, which has one of the best journalism programs in the country, but studied business. I've enjoyed telling stories and watching athletes achieve great things over the past 15 years, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I met Joe while compiling sports statistics in high school and he definitely helped me get started in this business. After two years of learning about journalism, I became a staff writer when longtime writer Joe Mattis - one of my mentors - retired. Bonaventure University in 2006 and became a correspondent in the sports department at the Erie Times-News that fall. One thing I'm most proud of in Erie is how much we support each other when raising funds for a great cause. I am a proud native of Erie as I grew up here witnessing not only amazing moments in local sports history but this city bouncing back time and again from tragedy.
